21. Social Behaviour
أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَقُولُ خَيْرًا أَوْ يَنْمِي خَيْرًا قَالَتْ وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُرَخِّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِمَّا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ إِلاَّ فِي ثَلاَثٍ الإِصْلاَحِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَحَدِيثِ الرَّجُلِ امْرَأَتَهُ وَحَدِيثِ الْمَرْأَةِ زَوْجَهَا
✧ She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The liar is not the one who reconciles between people, saying good or conveying good.' She said, 'I did not hear him grant a concession in anything of what people say of lying except in three cases: reconciling between people, a man's speech to his wife, and a woman's speech to her husband.'
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالصِّدْقِ فَإِنَّ الصِّدْقَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْبِرِّ وَإِنَّ الْبِرَّ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يَصْدُقُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللهِ صِدِّيقًا وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْكَذِبَ فَإِنَّ الْكَذِبَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْفُجُورِ وَالْفُجُورَ يَهْدِي إِلَى النَّارِ وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَكْذِبُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللهِ كَذَّابًا
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: “You must be truthful. Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to the Garden. A man keeps on telling the truth until he is written with Allah as a truthful one. Beware of lying. Lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. A man keeps on lying until he is written with Allah as a liar.”
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ لاَ يَصْلُحُ الْكَذِبُ فِي جِدٍّ وَلاَ هَزْلٍ وَلاَ أَنْ يَعِدَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَلَدَهُ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ لاَ يُنْجِزُ لَهُ
✧ ʿAbdullah said: “Lying is not proper, whether in earnest or in jest, nor is it proper for one of you to promise his child something and then not fulfil it for him.”
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمُؤْمِنُ الَّذِي يُخَالِطُ النَّاسَ وَيَصْبِرُ عَلَى أَذَاهُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الَّذِي لاَ يُخَالِطُ النَّاسَ وَلاَ يَصْبِرُ عَلَى أَذَاهُمْ
Ibn 'Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "The believer who mixes with people and endures their injury is better than the person who does not mix with people nor endure their injury."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ أَوْ لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أَصْبَرَ عَلَى أَذًى يَسْمَعُهُ مِنَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَدَّعُونَ لَهُ وَلَدًا وَإِنَّهُ لَيُعَافِيهِمْ وَيَرْزُقُهُمْ
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: “No one—or nothing—is more patient in enduring the hurtful things he hears than Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. They ascribe a son to Him, yet He grants them well-being and provides for them.”
قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ قَسَمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قِسْمَةً كَبَعْضِ مَا كَانَ يَقْسِمُ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهَا لَقِسْمَةٌ مَا أُرِيدَ بِهَا وَجْهَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قُلْتُ أَنَا لَأَقُولَنَّ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَسَارَرْتُهُ فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ ﷺ وَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُهُ وَغَضِبَ حَتَّى وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ أَخْبَرَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَدْ أُوذِيَ مُوسَى بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَصَبَرَ
✧ ʿAbdullah said: “The Prophet ﷺ distributed something as he used to distribute. A man from the Anṣār said, ‘By Allah, this is a distribution in which the face of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, was not intended.’ I said to myself, ‘I will certainly tell the Prophet ﷺ.’ So I went to him while he was among his companions and whispered to him. That distressed him ﷺ, his face changed, and he became angry until I wished I had not informed him. Then he said, ‘Musa was harmed with more than this, and he was patient.’”
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَلاَ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِدَرَجَةٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ وَالصِّيَامِ وَالصَّدَقَةِ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ صَلاَحُ ذَاتِ الْبَيْنِ وَفَسَادُ ذَاتِ الْبَيْنِ هِيَ الْحَالِقَةُ
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: “Shall I not tell you of a degree better than prayer, fasting, and charity?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “Mending discord. For the corruption of discord is the shearer.”

وَأَنْ يُصْلِحُوا ذَاتَ بَيْنِهِمْ
✧ “And that they make peace among themselves.”
حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ كَبُرَتْ خِيَانَةً أَنْ تُحَدِّثَ أَخَاكَ حَدِيثًا هُوَ لَكَ مُصَدِّقٌ وَأَنْتَ لَهُ كَاذِبٌ
✧ He narrated to him that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say: “It is a great treachery to tell your brother something he believes from you while you are lying to him.”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لاَ تُمَارِ أَخَاكَ وَلاَ تُمَازِحْهُ وَلاَ تَعِدْهُ مَوْعِدًا فَتُخْلِفَهُ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not dispute with your brother, do not jest with him, and do not make him a promise and then break it.”
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ شُعْبَتَانِ لاَ تَتْرُكُهُمَا أُمَّتِي النِّيَاحَةُ وَالطَّعْنُ فِي الأَنْسَابِ
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: “Two traits my community will not abandon: wailing and attacking lineages.”
سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَمِنَ الْعَصَبِيَّةِ أَنْ يُعِينَ الرَّجُلُ قَوْمَهُ عَلَى ظُلْمٍ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ
✧ I heard my father say: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, is it part of tribalism that a man helps his people in wrongdoing?” He said, “Yes.”
