19. Children
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِالزَّهْوِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مَدِينَتِنَا وَمُدِّنَا وَصَاعِنَا بَرَكَةً مَعَ بَرَكَةٍ ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهُ أَصْغَرَ مَنْ يَلِيهِ مِنَ الْوِلْدَانِ
✧ Abū Hurayrah said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought fresh dates, he would say, "O Allah, bless us in our city, in our mudd, and in our ṣāʿ, blessing upon blessing." Then he would hand them to the youngest child among those near him.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَيَعْرِفْ حَقَّ كَبِيرِنَا
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young and does not recognize the right of our elderly."
أَنَّهُ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَدُعِينَا إِلَى طَعَامٍ فَإِذَا حُسَيْنٌ يَلْعَبُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ فَأَسْرَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَمَامَ الْقَوْمِ ثُمَّ بَسَطَ يَدَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ يَمُرُّ مَرَّةً هَا هُنَا وَمَرَّةً هَا هُنَا يُضَاحِكُهُ حَتَّى أَخَذَهُ فَجَعَلَ إِحْدَى يَدَيْهِ فِي ذَقْنِهِ وَالأُخْرَى فِي رَأْسِهِ ثُمَّ اعْتَنَقَهُ فَقَبَّلَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حُسَيْنٌ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ مَنْ أَحَبَّ الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ سَبِطَانِ مِنَ الأَسْبَاطِ
Ya'la ibn Murra said, "We went out with the Prophet ﷺ and we were invited to eat. Husayn was playing in the road and the Prophet ﷺ raced the people and then spread out his arms. The boy began to run this way and that and the Prophet made him laugh until he caught hold of him. He put one of his hands under his chin and the other on his head and then embraced him. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn. Allah loves anyone who loves al-Hasan and al-Husayn. They are two of my distinguished descendants.'"
أَنَّهُ رَأَى عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ يُقَبِّلُ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَهِيَ ابْنَةُ سَنَتَيْنِ أَوْ نَحْوَهُ
Bukayr reported that he saw 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far kissing Zaynab, the daughter of 'Umar ibn Abi Salama when she was about two years old.
أَنْ لاَ تَنْظُرَ إِلَى شَعْرِ أَحَدٍ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَهْلَكَ أَوْ صَبِيَّةً فَافْعَلْ
✧ "Do not look at the hair of any of your family except your wife or a young girl, so do that."
حَدَّثَنِي يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلاَّمٍ قَالَ سَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُوسُفَ وَأَقْعَدَنِي عَلَى حِجْرِهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِي
✧ Yūsuf b. ʿAbdullāh b. Salām narrated to me. He said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ named me Yūsuf, seated me on his lap, and stroked my head."
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَلْعَبُ بِالْبَنَاتِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَكَانَ لِي صَوَاحِبُ يَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا دَخَلَ يَنْقَمِعْنَ مِنْهُ فَيُسَرِّبُهُنَّ إِلَيَّ فَيَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي
✧ ʿĀʾishah said: "I used to play with dolls in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and I had girlfriends who played with me. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, they would hide from him, but he would send them to me, and they would play with me."
قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنَّ سَبِيلَ اللهِ كُلُّ عَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ وَالِدُكَ إِنَّمَا أَوْصَى بِجَمَلِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ قَوْمًا مُسْلِمِينَ يَغْزُونَ قَوْمًا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَادْفَعْ إِلَيْهِمُ الْجَمَلَ فَإِنْ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ غِلْمَانِ قَوْمٍ أَيُّهُمْ يَضَعُ الطَّابَعَ
✧ Ibn ʿUmar said: "O my son, the path of Allah is every righteous deed. If your father only bequeathed his camel for the path of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, then when you see Muslims fighting a people of the polytheists, give them the camel. For this one and his companions are in the path of the young boys of a people, whichever of them places the seal."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ لاَ يَرْحَمِ النَّاسَ لاَ يَرْحَمْهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will not show mercy to him."
أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ لاَ يَرْحَمُ لاَ يُرْحَمُ وَلاَ يُغْفَرُ مَنْ لاَ يَغْفِرُ وَلاَ يُعْفَ عَمَّنْ لَمْ يَعْفُ وَلاَ يُوقَّ مَنْ لا يَتَوَقَّ
✧ He said, "Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy. Whoever does not forgive will not be forgiven. Whoever does not pardon will not be pardoned. Whoever does not guard will not be guarded."
