عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ لاَ تُكْرِمْ صَدِيقَكَ بِمَا يَشُقُّ عَلَيْهِ
✧ From Muḥammad, who said: They used to say: "Do not honour your friend in a way that burdens him."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا عَادَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ أَوْ زَارَهُ قَالَ اللَّهُ لَهُ طِبْتَ وَطَابَ مَمْشَاكَ وَتَبَوَّأْتَ مَنْزِلاً فِي الْجَنَّةِ
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "When a man visits his brother or calls on him, Allah says to him: 'You have been good, and your walking has been good, and you have taken a dwelling place in Paradise.'"
عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَتْ زَارَنَا سَلْمَانُ مِنَ الْمَدَائِنِ إِلَى الشَّامِ مَاشِيًا وَعَلَيْهِ كِسَاءٌ وَانْدَرْوَرْدُ قَالَ يَعْنِي سَرَاوِيلَ مُشَمَّرَةً قَالَ ابْنُ شَوْذَبٍ رُؤِيَ سَلْمَانُ وَعَلَيْهِ كِسَاءٌ مَطْمُومُ الرَّأْسِ سَاقِطُ الأُذُنَيْنِ يَعْنِي أَنَّهُ كَانَ أَرْفَشَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ شَوَّهْتَ نَفْسَكَ قَالَ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الاخِرَةِ
✧ From Umm al-Dardāʾ, who said: Salmān visited us, traveling on foot from al-Madāʾin to Syria, wearing a rough cloak and a waist-wrap—meaning short trousers. Ibn Shawdhab said: Salmān was seen with a rough cloak, his head unkempt, his ears drooping—meaning he was hairy. It was said to him, "You have made yourself ugly." He said, "Indeed, the good is the good of the Hereafter."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ زَارَ أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَطَعِمَ عِنْدَهُمْ طَعَامًا فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ أَمَرَ بِمَكَانٍ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ فَنُضِحَ لَهُ عَلَى بِسَاطٍ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَدَعَا لَهُمْ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited a household of the Anṣār and ate food with them. When he left, he ordered that a spot in the house be sprinkled for him, and he prayed on a carpet there and supplicated for them.

عَنْ أَبِي خَلْدَةَ قَالَ جَاءَ عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ إِلَى أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابُ صُوفٍ فَقَالَ أَبُو الْعَالِيَةِ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ ثِيَابُ الرُّهْبَانِ إِنْ كَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ إِذَا تَزَاوَرُوا تَجَمَّلُوا
✧ From Abū Khalda, who said: ʿAbd al-Karīm Abū Umayya came to Abū al-ʿĀliya wearing woolen clothes. Abū al-ʿĀliya said, "These are only the clothes of monks. When Muslims used to visit one another, they would adorn themselves."

قَالَ أَخْرَجَتْ إِلَيَّ أَسْمَاءُ جُبَّةً مِنْ طَيَالِسَةٍ عَلَيْهَا لَبِنَةُ شِبْرٍ مِنْ دِيبَاجٍ وَإِنَّ فَرْجَيْهَا مَكْفُوفَانِ بِهِ فَقَالَتْ هَذِهِ جُبَّةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَلْبَسُهَا لِلْوُفُودِ وَيَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ
'Abdullah, the client of Asma', said, "Asma' brought out to me a cloak of Tayalisah (a type of mantle) which had a collar border a span (wide) of brocade and verily it's two openings were hemmed with it (i.e. brocade). She said, 'This is the of the cloak of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He used to wear it for delegations and on Jumu'a.' "
سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ وَجَدَ عُمَرُ حُلَّةَ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ فَأَتَى بِهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ اشْتَرِ هَذِهِ وَالْبَسْهَا عِنْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَوْ حِينَ تَقْدِمُ عَلَيْكَ الْوُفُودُ فَقَالَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلاَةُ وَالسَّلاَمُ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُهَا مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِحُلَلٍ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بِحُلَّةٍ وَإِلَى أُسَامَةَ بِحُلَّةٍ وَإِلَى عَلِيٍّ بِحُلَّةٍ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرْسَلْتَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُ فِيهَا مَا قُلْتَ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ تَبِيعُهَا أَوْ تَقْضِي بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ
✧ I heard ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar say: ʿUmar found a silk brocade garment and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Buy this and wear it on Friday or when delegations come to you." He ﷺ said, "Only one who has no share in the Hereafter wears it." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought some garments, and he sent one garment to ʿUmar, one to Usāma, and one to ʿAlī. ʿUmar said, "O Messenger of Allah, you sent it to me although I heard you say about it what you said?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Sell it or fulfill your need with it."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ زَارَ رَجُلٌ أَخًا لَهُ فِي قَرْيَةٍ فَأَرْصَدَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَلَكًا عَلَى مَدْرَجَتِهِ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ؟ قَالَ أَخًا لِي فِي هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ لَهُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ تَرُبُّهَا؟ قَالَ لاَ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُ فِي اللهِ قَالَ فَإِنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ إِلَيْكَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَحَبَّكَ كَمَا أَحْبَبْتَهُ
✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: A man visited a brother of his in a village, so Allah stationed an angel on his path. The angel said, "Where are you going?" He said, "To a brother of mine in this village." The angel said, "Does he owe you some favor that you are seeking?" He said, "No, I love him for the sake of Allah." The angel said, "I am Allah's messenger to you: Allah loves you as you have loved him."
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الرَّجُلُ يُحِبُّ الْقَوْمَ وَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَلْحَقَ بِعَمَلِهِمْ؟ قَالَ أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَعَ مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ قَالَ أَنْتَ مَعَ مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ
✧ From Abū Dharr: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man loves a people but cannot join them in their deeds?" He said, "You, O Abū Dharr, are with the one you love." I said, "I love Allah and His Messenger." He said, "You are with the one you love, O Abū Dharr."
أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ مَتَى السَّاعَةُ؟ فَقَالَ وَمَا أَعْدَدْتَ لَهَا؟ قَالَ مَا أَعْدَدْتُ مِنْ كَبِيرٍ إِلاَّ أَنِّي أُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَالَ الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ
✧ A man asked the Prophet ﷺ, "O Prophet of Allah, when is the Hour?" He said, "What have you prepared for it?" He said, "I have not prepared much except that I love Allah and His Messenger." He said, "A person is with the one he loves."
