✧ About a man who wakes up and sees wetness but does not remember a wet dream, he said: “He should perform ghusl. But if he remembers a wet dream and does not see wetness, then no ghusl is required of him.”

machine translationIts narrators are the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ, except ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar al-ʿUmarī, about whom there is disagreement. Then he mentioned the statements of criticism (jarḥ) and praise (taʿdīl) about him, then said: The aforementioned narrator was alone in transmitting it, according to those among the compilers whom the author mentioned as having reported it, and we did not find it from anyone else. Thus Aḥmad and Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated it by way of him. So the ḥadīth is defective (maʿlūl) for two reasons: the first is the aforementioned al-ʿUmarī, and the second is his solitary transmission (tafarrud) and the absence of corroboration (mutābaʿah). So it falls short of the rank of fair (ḥasan) and sound (ṣaḥīḥ).
