✧ He went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition of Tabuk. One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat talking to his companions and said: Whoever stands when the sun has risen, performs ablution and does it well, then prays two rak'ahs, comes out of his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him. Uqbah said: I said, Praise be to Allah who granted me to hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Umar b. al-Khattab, who was sitting facing me, said: Are you amazed at this? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said something more amazing than this before you came. I said: What is that, may my father and mother be your ransom? Umar said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever performs ablution and does it well, then raises his gaze to the sky — or he said: directs his gaze to the sky — and says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger, the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.
