Sunan ad-Darimi 742

✧ Wiping over the two shoes.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ فَوَسَّعَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي فَعَلْتُ لَرَأَيْتُ أَنَّ بَاطِنَ الْقَدَمَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ ظَاهِرِهِمَا»

Translation

✧ I saw Ali perform ablution and wipe over his two sandals, and he extended (the wiping). Then he said: Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do as you saw me do, I would think that the bottoms of the feet are more deserving of wiping than their tops.
