✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to accept gifts but not charity. A Jewish woman of Khaybar gifted him a roasted sheep. He took some of it, and Bishr b. al-Bara' took some. Then the Prophet ﷺ raised his hand and said, 'This informs me that it is poisoned.' Bishr b. al-Bara' died. The Prophet ﷺ sent to her, asking, 'What made you do what you did?' She said, 'If you are a prophet, nothing will harm you; if you are a king, I have relieved the people of you.' During his illness he said, 'I have never ceased to feel the effects of the morsel I ate at Khaybar. This is the time when my aorta is severed.'
