✧ The Blame for Seeking Knowledge for Other than Allah

أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ

«الْعُلَمَاءُ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَرَجُلٌ عَاشَ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَعَاشَ مَعَهُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ وَرَجُلٌ عَاشَ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَلَمْ يَعِشْ مَعَهُ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ وَرَجُلٌ عَاشَ النَّاسُ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَكَانَ وَبَالًا عَلَيْهِ»

✧ “The scholars are three: a man who lived in his knowledge and people lived with him in it; a man who lived in his knowledge and no one lived with him in it; and a man in whose knowledge people lived, and it was a burden against him.”
