✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he looked up at the sky and then said, “This is the time when knowledge will be snatched away from people until they are able to get nothing of it.” Ziyad b. Labid al-Ansari said, “O Messenger of Allah, how will it be snatched away from us when we have read the Qur’an? By Allah, we will certainly keep reading it and will make our women and children read it.” He said, “May your mother be bereaved of you, O Ziyad! I used to count you among the jurists of the people of Madinah. This Torah and Gospel are with the Jews and Christians, but what do they avail them?” Jubayr said: Then I met Ubadah b. al-Samit and said, “Will you not listen to what your brother Abu al-Darda’ says?” I informed him of what he had said. He said, “Abu al-Darda’ spoke the truth. If you wish, I will tell you of the first knowledge to be removed from people: it is humility. Soon you will enter the congregational mosque and not see a single humble man in it.”
