✧ al-Futya and Its Intensity

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ قَالَ كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ «إِذَا سُئِلَ

عَنِ الْأَمْرِ فَكَانَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ أَخْبَرَ بِهِ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَ بِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَعَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ قَالَ فِيهِ بِرَأْيِهِ»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad
  2. Ibn ʿUyaynah
  3. ʿUbaydullāh b. Abū Yazīd
  4. Kān Ibn ʿAbbās Idhā Suʾil

✧ He was asked about a matter. If it was in the Quran, he informed about it. If it was not in the Quran and there was a Sunnah from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he informed about it. If it was not, then he referred to Abu Bakr and Umar. If it was not, he gave his opinion on it."
