✧ I had a sister, and she was proposed to me, but I kept her away from men. Then a paternal cousin of mine came and proposed to her, so I married her to him. He lay with her as Allah Almighty willed, then he divorced her with a revocable divorce, then he left her until her waiting period ended. Then he proposed to her along with the other suitors. I said, “I kept her away from men and I married her to you, then you divorced her with a revocable divorce, then you left her until her waiting period ended. Now when she is proposed to me, you come proposing to her along with the suitors. I will never marry her to you.” So Allah Almighty sent down — or he said: it was sent down — “And when you divorce women and they have reached their term, do not prevent them from marrying their husbands” (al-Baqarah 232). So I atoned for my oath and married her to him. The meaning is close.
