What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThe basis of the hadith of theft rests on these narrators, and none of them is strong: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAbdullāh and the two sons of Zayd. Even if the hadith is from Zayd from Ibn al-Baylamānī, Ibn al-Baylamānī is weak (ḍaʿīf) in hadith. The consensus of the scholars against it, and they do not agree on abandoning an authentic report, is evidence of its weakness, or of its abrogation if it were authentic.
