That he asked Saʿd about exchanging wheat (bayḍāʾ) for barley without husk (sult). Saʿd said to him, "Which of the two is better?" He said, "The wheat." So he forbade him from that, and Saʿd said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about one who buys dried dates with fresh dates. He said, 'Do fresh dates shrink when they dry?' They said, 'Yes.' So he forbade that."

زيد أبو عياش لا يدري من هو
machine translationZayd Abū ʿAyyāsh: it is not known who he is.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 3004 - Khaṭṭābī
machine translationSome people have spoken about the chain of this hadith and said: Zayd Abū ʿAyyāsh is unknown (majhūl), and a chain like this, according to the principle of al-Shāfiʿī, is not to be used as evidence. But the matter is not as he imagined, for this Abū ʿAyyāsh is a well-known freed slave (mawlā) of Banū Zuhrah, and Mālik mentioned him in the Muwaṭṭaʾ, and Mālik does not narrate from a man whose hadith is abandoned (matrūk) in any way. This is Mālik's way and his habit.
