machine translationThe hadith of Abū Hurayrah is a good (ḥasan), strange (gharīb) hadith. We do not know it as a hadith of Hishām from Ibn Sīrīn from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet ﷺ except from the narration of ʿĪsā b. Yūnus. He said: This hadith has also been narrated through other routes from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet ﷺ, but its chain of transmission is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 2274
  • al-Bukhari

machine translationIt is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ). It is only narrated from ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿīd al-Maqburī from Abū Hurayrah, and ʿAbdullāh is weak (ḍaʿīf).

machine translationThe hadith of Abū al-Dardāʾ is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Abū Hurayrah traced back to the Prophet (marfūʿ) on this topic, meaning the hadith of Abū al-Dardāʾ that the Prophet ﷺ vomited and broke his fast.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 2274
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThis meaning has indeed been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ with a connected chain (musnad) from the hadith of Abū Hurayrah. ʿĪsā b. Yūnus narrated it from Hishām b. Ḥassān, from Muḥammad b. Yazīd, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever is overcome by vomiting while fasting, he does not owe a make-up fast, and whoever induces vomiting, he must make it up." ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad informed us, Muḥammad b. Bakr informed us, Abū Dāwūd informed us, Musaddad informed us, ʿĪsā b. Yūnus informed us. ʿĪsā is trustworthy (thiqah) and excellent, except that in the view of the people of hadith he erred in it and they rejected it from him. Some of them claimed that Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth narrated it from Hishām b. Ḥassān with his chain, and God knows best. Abū ʿUmar said: ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿīd b. Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī also narrated it from his father, from his grandfather, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, but ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿīd is weak (ḍaʿīf) and is not used as proof.

machine translationHe considered him weak (ḍaʿīf).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 2274
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThe more correct view is that it is a statement stopping at Abū Hurayrah (mawqūf).
