When the imam stands up after two rak'ahs, then if he remembers before he has fully risen to standing, let him sit; but if he has fully risen to standing, let him not sit, and he performs the two prostrations of forgetfulness. And likewise it was narrated by al-Firyābī, Muʾammal and others than them two, from al-Thawrī.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn Rajab

machine translationIn its chain of transmission is Jābir al-Juʿfī, whom most of the scholars declared weak (ḍaʿīf).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1418
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationIts chain is weak (ḍaʿīf); the like of him is not a proof (ḥujjah).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1418
  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationAbū ʿUmar said: This shows you that the hadith of Ibn Buḥaynah is sounder (aṣaḥḥ) according to Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, who is an imam of the people of hadith, than the hadith of al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1418

machine translationIts transmission revolves around Jābir al-Juʿfī. Al-Bayhaqī said in al-Maʿrifah: Jābir is not to be taken as a proof.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt is narrated by al-Mughīrah b. Shibl, and there is disagreement concerning him. Manṣūr narrated it from al-Mughīrah b. Shibl, and it was said Ibn Shubayl, from al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah, which would make it mursal. There is also disagreement concerning Manṣūr: it was narrated from Rawḥ b. al-Qāsim, from Manṣūr, from al-Mughīrah b. Shibl, from Qays, from al-Mughīrah. Likewise Jābir al-Juʿfī narrated it from al-Mughīrah b. Shubayl, from Qays b. Abī Ḥāzim, from al-Mughīrah, and this is the correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1418
