“Allah has cursed women who tattoo, women who have themselves tattooed, women who pluck facial hair, and women who file gaps between their teeth for beauty, thereby changing Allah’s creation.” This reached a woman from Banu Asad called Umm Yaqub. She came and said, “I have been told that you cursed such-and-such women.” He said, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed and who are mentioned in the Book of Allah?” She said, “I have read everything between its two covers, but I did not find in it what you say.” He said, “If you had truly read it, you would have found it. Have you not read, ‘Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, refrain from it’?” ([al-Hashr 59:7](https://quran.islamunlocked.com/quran:59:7)) She said, “Yes.” He said, “He did indeed forbid it.” She said, “I think your wife does it.” He said, “Go and look.” She went and looked but did not see any of what she was looking for. He then said, “Had she been like that, I would not have had marital relations with her.”
