machine translationIbn Shihāb said: And Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān informed me that Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh al-Anṣārī said, while he was speaking about the pause in revelation (fatrat al-waḥy), in his narration: "While I was walking, I heard a voice from the sky. I raised my gaze, and there was the angel who had come to me at Ḥirāʾ, sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I was terrified of him, so I returned and said: 'Wrap me up!' Then Allah the Exalted revealed {يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ * قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ} up to His saying {وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ}. Then the revelation intensified and followed in succession." ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf and Abū Ṣāliḥ corroborated him (tābaʿahu). Hilāl b. Raddād also corroborated him, from al-Zuhrī. And Yūnus and Maʿmar said: "his bawādir"
