✧ Three people set out for a need of theirs and took shelter in a mountain, which collapsed upon them. They said: 'O you, meaning some to others, think about the best of your deeds and call upon Allah through them, perhaps Allah will relieve us.' One of them said: 'O Allah, there was a woman I was close with, and I kept going to her until I got what I wanted from her. She said: "I remind you of Allah not to do with me what Allah has forbidden you." I said: "I am more deserving to fear." So I left her out of fear of You and seeking Your pleasure. If You know that, then relieve us.' He said: The mountain split open for them until they hoped to get out but could not get out. The second said: 'O Allah, there were hired workers working on a job—I think he said—and each of them took his wages, but one left his wages and claimed that his wages were more than the wages of his companions. I set aside his wages from my wealth until it became much good and livestock. He came to me after he had become poor and old, and said: "I remind you of Allah regarding my wages, for I am in greater need of it than ever." I went up on a house and showed him what Allah had increased from his wages in wealth and livestock in the open land, meaning in the deserts. I said: "This is for you." He said: "Are you mocking me, may Allah set you right? I wanted less than this and you refused me." So I gave it to him, O Lord, out of fear of You and seeking Your pleasure. If You know that, then relieve us.' The mountain split open for them, but they could not get out. The third said: 'O Lord, I had two elderly poor parents who had no servant, no shepherd, and no guardian other than me. I pastured for them by day and returned to them by night. The pasture became distant, so I went far with the livestock. I came to them at night after part of the night had passed and they had slept. I milked into the vessel, then sat by their heads with the vessel, disliking to wake them until they woke up on their own. O Allah, if You know that I did that out of fear of You and seeking Your pleasure, then relieve us.' The mountain split open and they came out.
