✧ What 'Abd al-Rahman al-A'raj narrated from Abu Hurayrah

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، نَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، نَا سُهَيْلٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:
جَاءَ الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ذَهَبَ الْأَغْنِيَاءُ بِالدَّرَجَاتِ الْعُلَى وَالنَّعِيمِ الْمُقِيمِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالُوا: يُصَلُّونَ كَمَا نُصَلِّي وَيَصُومُونَ كَمَا نَصُومُ، وَلَهُمْ مَالٌ يَتَصَدَّقُونَ وَيُعْتِقُونَ وَلَا نَجِدُ، قَالَ: أَفَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى أَمْرٍ إِذَا فَعَلْتُمُوهُ لَمْ يَسْبِقْكُمْ أَحَدٌ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ، وَلَمْ يَلْحَقْ بِكُمْ أَحَدٌ بَعْدَكُمْ إِلَّا مَنْ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ ؟ قَالَ: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، وَاحْمَدُوا ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، وَكَبِّرُوا أَرْبَعًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، فَفَعَلُوا، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ الْأَغْنِيَاءَ، فَفَعَلُوا مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ الْفُقَرَاءُ، فَعَادُوا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ فَعَلْنَا الَّذِي أَمَرْتَنَا وَهُمْ يَفْعَلُونَ مَا نَفْعَلُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: ذَلِكَ فَضْلُ اللهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ

✧ The poor came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have taken the high ranks and enduring bliss.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'And what is that?' They said: 'They pray as we pray and fast as we fast, and they have wealth with which they give charity and free slaves, while we have nothing.' He said: 'Shall I not guide you to something that, if you do it, no one before you will have surpassed you, and no one after you will catch up with you except one who does the like of what you do?' He said: 'Say "Glory be to Allah" thirty-three times, "Praise be to Allah" thirty-three times, and "Allah is greatest" thirty-four times after every prayer.' They did so. This reached the wealthy, and they did the same as the poor had said. The poor returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we have done what you commanded us, and they are doing what we do.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills.'
