✧ I was sitting with a man in the presence of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, “A servant does not believe until he loves for his Muslim brother what he loves for himself.” Anas said, “The man and I then went out to the market, and there was some merchandise being sold. I bargained with the owner, and he said, ‘Thirty.’ The man looked, and I said, ‘I have taken it for forty.’ Its owner said, ‘What makes you do this when I would give it to you for less than that?’ Then he looked again, and I said, ‘I have taken it for fifty.’ Its owner said, ‘What makes you do this when I would give it to you for less than that?’ He said, ‘I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, “A servant does not believe until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself,” and I consider it fitting at fifty.’”
