Translation

✧ A man among those who wrote between the hands of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite from al-Baqarah and Āl ʿImrān. He would dictate to him something of the names of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, and he would say, "Samīʿun ʿAlīm (All-Hearing, All-Knowing)," and the other would say, "Ghafūrun Raḥīm (Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful)." He would say, "Write whichever of them you wish." He then apostatized from Islam and joined the polytheists, saying, "Do you teach me about Muhammad? I used to write whatever I wished." He died, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "The earth will not accept him." He said: It was mentioned that Abū Ṭalḥah came to the land where the man died and found him cast out. He said, "What is the matter with this?" They said, "We buried him many times, but the earth would not accept him."
