Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. Maʿmar
  2. Rawḥ b. ʿUbādah

✧ Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Shahr b. Hawshab, from Abd al-Rahman b. Ghanm, from Thawban, from the Prophet ﷺ with the like of it. These chains from Thawban regarding 'The cupper and the one cupped have broken their fast' are good chains. As for Qatadah from Shahr, we do not know anyone who narrated it from Qatadah except Sa'id b. Abi Arubah. As for Qatadah from Salim, we do not know anyone who narrated it from Qatadah except Bukayr b. Abi al-Samit, who is a shaykh from Basra and is acceptable. However, this hadith is not preserved from Qatadah from Salim. I think Bukayr erred in it when he said 'from Salim.' Al-Layth b. Sa'd narrated it from Qatadah from al-Hasan from Thawban and made a mistake in it, because the reliable narrators narrate it from al-Hasan from Abu Hurayrah, and al-Layth erred in it. Ayyub b. Abi Sukayn al-Wasiti narrated it from Qatadah from Shahr b. Hawshab from Bilal and erred in it. He is also called Ibn Miskin, and Ayyub's kunyah is Abu al-Ala. In my view, the hadith is more likely the hadith of Ibn Abi Arubah because he is more retentive than others.
