✧ I asked permission from the Messenger of God ﷺ to spend the night at his door so that he could wake me for his need. He gave me permission, so I spent a night remembering something or recollecting something I wanted to ask him about when morning came. He came out to me, and I said, 'O Messenger of God, I was sleepless last night wanting to ask you about something that preoccupied me. The wealthy companions have surpassed us with a clear lead: they pray as we pray, fast as we fast, and they do [good deeds] while they have wealth with which they give charity, and we do not have [wealth] to do that.' He said, 'Shall I not inform you, O Abu Dharr, of a deed by which you will catch up with those before you and surpass those after you, except one who does the like of your deed? You glorify God after every prayer thirty-three times, magnify Him thirty-three times, and praise Him thirty-four times.'
