✧ The roof of my house split open while I was in Makkah, and Gabriel ﷺ descended and opened my chest, then washed it with Zamzam water. Then he brought a golden basin filled with wisdom and faith and poured it into my chest, then closed it. Then he took my hand—I think he said—and ascended with me to the heaven. When we came to the lowest heaven, Gabriel said to the keeper of the heaven: 'Open.' He said: 'Who is this?' Gabriel said: 'Gabriel.' He said: 'Is there anyone with you?' He said: 'With me is Muhammad ﷺ.' He said: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then he opened.' When we ascended to the lowest heaven, I saw a man sitting, and he said: 'Welcome to the righteous prophet and the righteous son.' I said to Gabriel: 'Who is this?' He said: 'This is Adam.' Then he ascended with me until he came to the second heaven, and Gabriel said to its keeper the same as he had said to the keeper of the lowest heaven. Anas said: He mentioned that he found in the heavens Idris, Musa, 'Isa, and Ibrahim, and he mentioned that he found Ibrahim in the sixth heaven, and he said: 'Welcome to the righteous prophet.' I said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Ibrahim.'

machine translationI asked my father about a hadith that Yūnus narrated from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, from Abū Dharr, from the Prophet ﷺ, concerning the Ascension (al-miʿrāj), and that Qatādah narrated from Anas, from Mālik b. Ṣaʿṣaʿah, from the Prophet ﷺ. It was said to my father: which of the two is closer? He said: I do not set anyone of the people of his era level with al-Zuhrī. Then he said: I hope that both are sound. Another time he said: the hadith of al-Zuhrī is more sound. I said to my father: they differed regarding al-Zuhrī. He said: Yes, some of them say, from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, from Ubayy b. Kaʿb, but al-Zuhrī from Anas from Abū Dharr is more sound.
