✧ I came to Umar b. al-Khattab while he was giving to the people. I approached him from his right, and he turned away from me. Then I approached from his left, and he turned away from me. Then I came to him from in front and said: 'O Commander of the Faithful, do you not know me?' He said: 'Indeed, may God greet you with the best knowledge. I know you: you accepted Islam when they disbelieved, you gave when they withheld, you fulfilled when they betrayed, and you came forward when they turned back. The first charity that brightened the face of the Messenger of God ﷺ was the charity of your people when you brought it carrying it to the Messenger of God ﷺ.' He said: 'Then I said: Since you know me, I do not care.'
