أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَأَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى - ؓ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَقَامَ سِلْعَةً لَهُ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، فَحَلَفَ بِاللهِ كَاذِبًا لَقَدْ أَعْطَى بِهَا كَذَا، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا.

✧ A man displayed his merchandise after ‘Asr and swore by Allah falsely, saying he had been offered such-and-such a price for it. Then this verse was revealed: “Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price” (Qur’an 3:77).
