✧ The first hadith of Abu Musa

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، قَالَ:
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَى ؓ فَعَطَسَتِ ابْنَةٌ لَهُ أَوِ ابْنٌ لَهُ، فَشَمَّتَ الْجَارِيَةَ وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الْغُلَامَ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّهَا: لِمَ شَمَّتَّهَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْ أَخَاهَا، فَقَالَ: إِنَّهَا ذَكَرَتِ اللهَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ، وَإِنَّهُ نَسِيَ اللهَ فَنَسِيتُهُ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ عَطَسَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ فَشَمِّتُوهُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللهَ فَلَا تُشَمِّتُوهُ
Translation

✧ I was with Abu Musa ؓ when a daughter or a son of his sneezed and he said the response for the girl but did not say it for the boy. Their mother said: Why did you respond for her and not for her brother? He said: She remembered Allah, so I remembered; and he forgot Allah, so I forgot. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever sneezes and praises Allah, then respond to him; and whoever does not praise Allah, then do not respond to him.
