✧ We went out with the Ash'aris, and we returned, and a group of us, including myself, hurried ahead and became separated from the people. A slave girl came on a mule, so I brought her near a tree and helped her dismount, then I returned to my seat. Abu Musa said to me: "Shall I not tell you a hadith that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to tell us?" We said: "Yes." He said: "Before the Hour is the harj." We said: "What is the harj?" He said: "Killing and lying." We said to the Ash'ari: "More than what we kill today?" He said: "It is not your killing the disbelievers." We fell silent, and none of us spoke a clear word. He said: "We said: Then what?" He said: "A man killing his brother." We said: "Will we have our minds on that day?" He said: "The minds of most of your time, or most of the people of your time, will not be taken away. A worthless multitude of people will succeed them, most of whom think they are upon something, but they are not upon anything. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I feared that those days would overtake me and you, and I do not know of any way out for me or for you from them, according to what our Prophet ﷺ enjoined upon us, except that we exit from them as we entered into them, without introducing anything new into them."
