✧ We were with Umar ؓ and he said: 'Which of you memorizes the hadith of the Messenger of God ﷺ about the trial?' I said: 'I do.' He said: 'Bring it, may your father be for God! How is it?' I said: 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: The trial of a man in himself, his family, his wealth, and his children is expiated by fasting, prayer, charity, and enjoining good and forbidding evil.' Umar said: 'This is not what I want. I want the one that surges like the waves of the sea.' He said: 'There is no harm on you from it, O Commander of the Faithful. Between you and it is a closed door.' He said: 'Will that door be broken or opened?' I said: 'Rather, it will be broken.' He said: 'If it is broken, it will never be closed again.' And I narrated to him a hadith that is not among the errors.
