✧ "Who among you has memorized the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the fitnah (tribulation)?" He said, "I said, 'I memorize it as I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said, 'You are bold indeed.' I said, 'The fitnah of a man in his own self, his family, and his wealth, which the fasting, prayer, charity, enjoining good, and forbidding evil expiate.' Then 'Umar said, 'That is not what I want; I mean the one that surges like the waves of the sea.' He said, "I said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, you have nothing to fear from it, for between you and it there is a closed door.' He said, 'Will the door be broken or opened?' I said, 'It will be broken.' He said, 'Then if it is broken, it will never be closed again?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'We were too awed to ask him.' He said, 'So we said to Masruq, "Ask him."' He said, 'So we said, "Did 'Umar ؓ know whom he meant?" He said, "Yes, just as he knew that tonight precedes tomorrow. I narrated to him a hadith that contains no errors.""
