✧ O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will admit me to Paradise; I will not ask you about anything other than it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Bravo, bravo! You have asked about a great matter, and indeed it is easy for the one for whom Allah wills good. He said: You believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish the prayer, and worship Allah alone, not associating anything with Him, until you die while upon that. He said: O Prophet of Allah, repeat it, and he repeated it three times. Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: If you wish, I will tell you, O Mu'adh, of the foundation of this matter and its highest peak. Mu'adh said: Yes, O Prophet of Allah, may my father and mother be your ransom. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: Indeed the head of this matter is the testimony that there is no god but Allah alone with no partner, and that I am His servant and Messenger, the establishment of the prayer, and the giving of zakah; and the highest peak of it is jihad in the path of Allah. I have only been commanded to fight the people until they establish the prayer, give zakah, and testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am His servant and Messenger. When they do that, they have sought protection. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: No foot is covered with dust in a deed by which the degrees of Paradise are sought, after the prescribed prayer, like jihad in the path of Allah, nor is the scale of a servant made heavier than by a mount that dies for him in the path of Allah or that he rides in the path of Allah.
