✧ My Lord, Blessed and Exalted, came to me in the most beautiful form and said: O Muhammad. I said: At Your service, my Lord, and at Your command. He said: About what do the Highest Assembly dispute? He said: I said: About expiations and degrees. He said: And what are expiations and degrees? I said: Performing ablution thoroughly in severe cold, walking to the Friday prayers, and waiting for the prayers after the prayers. Say, O Muhammad: O Allah, I ask You for good things, the abandonment of evils, the doing of good deeds, and love of the poor; and if You will a trial among the people, then take me to You without my being afflicted. Whoever says that lives with good, dies with good, and comes out of his sins as on the day his mother bore him.

machine translationThere is disagreement about it on the authority of Qatādah. Yūsuf b. ʿAṭiyyah al-Ṣaffār narrated it from Qatādah from Anas, and he erred in it. Hishām narrated it from Qatādah from Abū Qilābah from Khālid b. al-Lajlāj from Ibn ʿAbbās, and he erred in saying Ibn ʿAbbās. The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is that Khālid b. al-Lajlāj narrated it from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿĀʾish, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿĀʾish did not hear it from the Prophet ﷺ; rather he narrated from Mālik b. Yukhāmir from Muʿādh b. Jabal.
