حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ:

لَمَّا أُصِيبَ عُمَرُ أَقْبَلَ صُهَيْبٌ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَامَ عِنْدَهُ وَهُوَ يَبْكِي فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: أَعَلَيَّ تَبْكِي ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ وَاللهِ عَلَيْكَ أَبْكِي يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قَالَ: وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: مَنْ يُبْكَى عَلَيْهِ يُعَذَّبُ

Translation

✧ When 'Umar was stabbed, Suhayb came from his house and entered upon him, and stood by him weeping. 'Umar said to him: Are you weeping for me? He said: Yes, by God, I weep for you, O Commander of the Believers. He said: By God, I know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: Whoever is wept over is punished.
