✧ When 'Umar embraced Islam, he said: "Who is the most talkative of people?" They said: "So-and-so." He went to him and said: "I have embraced Islam, so do not inform anyone." He said: He went out dragging his lower garment with its edge on his shoulder, saying: "Indeed, 'Umar has turned renegade." I said: "You lie, but I have embraced Islam," and he had a shirt on. A group of Quraysh stood against him and fought him, and he fought them until he fell and they piled on him. Then a man wearing a shirt came and said: "What is the matter with you and this man? Do you think Banu 'Adi b. Ka'b will leave you alone concerning their companion, while you kill a man who chose for himself to follow Muhammad?" He said: The people dispersed from him. I said to my father: "Who is the man?" He said: "Al-'As b. Wa'il al-Sahmi."
