✧ We used to be taught the istikhārah just as we were taught a sūrah from the Qurʾān. When one of you intends a matter, let him say: “O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, and I seek Your power through Your ability, and I ask You of Your immense bounty. You have power and I have none, and You know and I do not know, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if this matter which I intend”—and he names it—“is good for my religion, good for me in my worldly affair, and good for me in the outcome of my affair, then facilitate it for me”—I think he said—“and bless me in it. And if it is evil for me in my religious affair, evil for me in my worldly affair, and evil for me in the outcome of”—I think he said—“my affair, then turn it away from me, and facilitate for me the good, and decree it for me, and make me content with it.”
