ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (may God be pleased with him) said to ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him): "Have you forbidden the mutʿah?" He said: "No, but I wanted the House to be visited more often." ʿAlī (may God be pleased with him) then said: "Whoever performs the Ḥajj alone (ifrād), it is good; and whoever performs tamattuʿ has taken to the Book of God and the sunnah of His Prophet."

machine translationMy father said: He did not mention ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr. My father said: The narration of al-Walīd indicates that the sound version is the one narrated without ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr, because al-Walīd was a raising narrator (raffāʿ). I said: If al-Walīd did not connect it, then it is a mursal report, and the more likely version is the one without ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr? He said: Yes.
