The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a pact of brotherhood between Salmān and Abū al-Dardāʾ. He said: Salmān came to visit him, and Umm al-Dardāʾ was dressed in shabby clothes. He said: "What is the matter with you, Umm al-Dardāʾ?" She said: "Your brother Abū al-Dardāʾ stands in prayer at night and fasts by day, and he has no need of anything of this world." Then Abū al-Dardāʾ came, welcomed him, and set food before him. Salmān said to him: "Eat." He said: "I am fasting." He said: "I swear upon you that you break your fast." He said: "I will not eat until you eat." So he ate with him. Then Salmān spent the night with him. When it was night, Abū al-Dardāʾ wanted to get up to pray, but Salmān prevented him and said to him: "O Abū al-Dardāʾ, your body has a right over you, your Lord has a right over you, and your family has a right over you. Fast and break your fast, pray and come to your wife, and give everyone who has a right his right." When it was near dawn he said: "Get up now if you wish." He said: So the two of them got up, performed ablution, then prayed two rakʿahs, then went out to the prayer. Abū al-Dardāʾ drew near to inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what Salmān had instructed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "O Abū al-Dardāʾ, your body has a right over you, just as Salmān told you."
