We asked our Prophet ﷺ about walking with the funeral procession. He said: "Walking is at a pace below a trot. If it is good, it is hastened to it, and if it is other than that, then away with the people of the Fire. The funeral is followed and does not follow; one who goes ahead of it is not with it."

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

  • al-Tirmidhi
