And Abū ʿAbdillāh al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us: Abū Bakr b. ʿAbdillāh informed us: al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān informed us: ʿUthmān and Abū Bakr, the two sons of Abū Shaybah, narrated to us, they said: al-Qāsim b. Mālik al-Muzanī narrated to us: Ayyūb b. ʿĀʾidh al-Ṭāʾī narrated to us. Then he mentioned it with similar wording. Muslim narrated it in al-Ṣaḥīḥ from Abū Bakr b. Abī Shaybah. It is possible that what is meant by it is one rakʿah with the imam, and he performs another rakʿah on his own, according to the view of those who hold that the obligatory prayer in congregation is binding on every individual. And in the manner of the fear prayer in the authentic hadiths, despite the differences in its forms and the agreement on its number of rakʿahs, there is evidence for the soundness of this interpretation, and God knows best. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, may God have mercy on him, and a group of the people of hadith held that every hadith that has come down in the chapters on the fear prayer may be acted upon. And success is from God.
