"Whoever swears a binding oath (yamīn ṣabr) in order to seize the property of a Muslim man will meet Allah while He is angry with him. And the confirmation of that is in the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا} to the end of the verse." Then al-Ashʿath b. Qays entered and said: "What has Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān told you?" They said: "Such and such." He said: "He has spoken the truth; it was revealed about me. There was a dispute between me and a man over a piece of land in Yemen, so we took our dispute to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: 'Do you have proof?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'Then his oath.' I said: 'Then he will swear.' He said: 'Whoever swears a binding oath in order to seize the property of a Muslim man will meet Allah while He is angry with him.' So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا} to the end of the verse."
