Saʿīd b. Abī Burdah brought out a document to us and said: This is the letter of ʿUmar to Abū Mūsā, may God be pleased with them. Then he mentioned the hadith, and in it he said: Then beware of irritability, anxiety, being vexed by people, and being hostile to litigants in the places of truth, through which God Almighty makes reward obligatory and earns a store of treasure. For whoever sets right his inner self in what is between him and his Lord, God sets right what is between him and the people. And whoever adorns himself to the people with what God knows to be otherwise in him, God will disgrace him. What then do you think of the reward of anyone other than God in the immediate life of this world, and the treasuries of His mercy? And peace.
