ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) was brought a man who had killed intentionally, and he ordered that he be executed. Then some of the guardians pardoned him, but he still ordered his execution. Ibn Masʿūd said: "The life belonged to all of them, and when this one pardoned, he gave life to the soul, so it is not possible to take his right until another takes his." He said: "What do you think?" He said: "I think you should make the blood money payable by him from his own wealth, and remove the share of the one who pardoned." ʿUmar (may God be pleased with him) said: "And I think the same."
