I was with Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ when a man came to him and said: He divorced his wife three times. He said: He was silent until we thought he would return her to him. Then he said: One of you goes off and commits folly, then says: O Ibn ʿAbbās, O Ibn ʿAbbās! And indeed Allah, Mighty is His praise, said: And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. But you did not fear Allah, so I find no way out for you. You disobeyed your Lord, and your wife is irrevocably separated from you. And indeed Allah said: ( O Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them at the commencement of their waiting period )
