The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the prayer ground on the day of al-Aḍḥā or al-Fiṭr and prayed. Then he turned away and admonished the people, and commanded them to give charity, saying: "O people, give charity." Then he turned away and passed by the women and said: "O company of women, give charity, for I have seen that you are the majority of the people of the Fire." They said: "And why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "You curse frequently and you are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone deficient in intellect and religion more able to overcome the mind of a firm, sensible man than you, O company of women." They said to him: "What is the deficiency of our intellect and our religion?" He said: "Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half the testimony of a man?" They said: "Yes." He said: "That is from the deficiency of her intellect. Is it not so that when a woman menstruates she does not pray and does not fast?" They said: "Yes." He said: "That is from the deficiency of her religion."
