ʿUtbah b. Abī Waqqāṣ had entrusted his brother Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ to take into his custody the son of the slave woman of Zamʿah. ʿUtbah said: "He is my son." When the Prophet ﷺ arrived at the time of the Conquest, Saʿd took the son of the slave woman of Zamʿah and came with him to the Prophet ﷺ, and ʿAbd b. Zamʿah came with him. Saʿd said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is my brother's son; he entrusted me that he is his son." ʿAbd b. Zamʿah said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is my brother, the son of Zamʿah, born on his bed." The Prophet ﷺ looked at the son of the slave woman of Zamʿah, and he was the most similar of people to ʿUtbah b. Abī Waqqāṣ. Then the Prophet ﷺ said: "He is yours, O ʿAbd b. Zamʿah, because he was born on the bed of his father." Then the Prophet ﷺ said: "Veil yourself from him, O Sawdah bint Zamʿah," because of what he saw of his resemblance to ʿUtbah b. Abī Waqqāṣ. And Sawdah bint Zamʿah was the wife of the Prophet ﷺ.
