حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
لَوْ أَنَّ الْأَنْصَارَ سَلَكُوا وَادِيًا أَوْ شِعْبًا [وَسَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا أَوْ شِعْبًا] لَسَلَكْتُ وَادِيَ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَلَوْلَا الْهِجْرَةُ لَكُنْتُ امْرَأً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ. قَالَ: فَكَانَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ: مَا ظَلَمَ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي لَقَدْ آوَوْهُ وَنَصَرُوهُ وَكَلِمَةً أُخْرَى
Translation

✧ If the Ansar were to travel through a valley or a mountain pass—while the rest of the people traveled through another valley or pass—I would travel through the valley of the Ansar. Were it not for the emigration, I would have been a man of the Ansar. He [the narrator] said: Abu Hurayrah used to say: By my father and mother, he did them no injustice. They sheltered him and supported him—and another word [of merit].
