✧ He asked Abu Hurayrah: Did you pray the fear prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Abu Hurayrah said: Yes. He said: When? He said: In the year of the expedition of Najd. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for the Asr prayer, and a group stood with him, while another group faced the enemy, their backs toward the qiblah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the takbir, and all of them said the takbir—those with him and those facing the enemy. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bowed one rak'ah, and the group nearest him bowed with him. Then he prostrated, and the group nearest him prostrated, while the others remained standing facing the enemy. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood, and the group with him went to face the enemy and fought them. The group that had been facing the enemy came forward, and they bowed and prostrated while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained standing as he was. Then they stood, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bowed another rak'ah, and they bowed and prostrated with him. Then the group that had been fighting the enemy came forward, and they bowed and prostrated while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, along with those who followed him. Then came the salutation, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the salam and they all said the salam together. Thus the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed two rak'ahs, and each man of the two groups prayed two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs.

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿUrwah from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet ﷺ concerning the fear prayer and how they prayed. He said: There is disagreement about it on the authority of ʿUrwah. Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. al-Zubayr narrated it from ʿUrwah from Abū Hurayrah; Yūnus b. Bukayr said it from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq from Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. al-Zubayr. Abū al-Aswad Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān contradicted him, narrating it from ʿUrwah from Marwān b. al-Ḥakam from Abū Hurayrah, and that is the closer to correct. It was also said, from Abū al-Aswad from ʿUrwah from Abū Hurayrah, that Marwān asked Abū Hurayrah. And it was said, from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq from Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. al-Zubayr from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, may God be pleased with her.
