✧ The delegation of Hawazin came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at al-Ji'ranah, and they had become Muslim. They said: O Messenger of Allah, we are a root and a tribe, and we have been afflicted with hardship that is not hidden from you; so bestow favor upon us as Allah has bestowed favor upon you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Are your sons and your women dearer to you, or your wealth? They said: O Messenger of Allah, you have given us a choice between our lineages and our wealth. Rather, return to us our women and our sons, for that is dearer to us. He said to them: As for what belongs to me and to the Banu Abd al-Muttalib, it is yours. When I have prayed the noon prayer with the people, stand up and say: We seek the intercession of the Messenger of Allah with the Muslims, and of the Muslims with the Messenger of Allah, concerning our sons and our women. Then I will give you at that point, and I will ask on your behalf. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the noon prayer with the people, they stood up and spoke as he had commanded them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: As for what belongs to me and to the Banu Abd al-Muttalib, it is yours. The Muhajirun said: What belongs to us is for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Ansar said: What belongs to us is for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Al-Aqra' b. Habis said: As for me and Banu Tamim, no. Uyaynah b. Hisn b. Hudhayfah b. Badr said: As for me and Banu Fazarah, no. Abbas b. Mirdas said: As for me and Banu Sulaym, no. Banu Sulaym said: No, what belongs to us is for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Abbas said: O Banu Sulaym, you have made me look weak. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: As for whoever of you holds on to his right from this captives, he shall have for every person six shares from the first thing we obtain. So they returned to the people their sons and their women.
