✧ We were with Abu Bakr al-Siddiq during his work when he became angry with a man among the Muslims, and his anger became very intense. When I saw that, I said: O vicegerent of the Messenger of God, shall I strike his neck? When I mentioned killing, he turned away from that entire matter to something else. When we dispersed, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq sent for me afterwards and said: O Abu Barzah, what did you say? He said: I had forgotten what I said. I said: Remind me. He said: Do you not remember what you said? He said: I said: No, by God. He said: Did you see when I became angry with the man and you said, "Shall I strike his neck, O vicegerent of the Messenger of God?" Do you not remember that? Would you have done it? He said: I said: Yes, by God, and even now if you command me, I will do it. He said: Woe to you—or may you be ruined—by God, that is not for anyone after Muhammad ﷺ.
