حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ قَالَ كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ كَتَبْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِخَطِّي وَخَتَمْتُ الْكِتَابَ بِخَاتَمِي يَذْكُرُ أَنَّ اللَّيْثَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ أَنَّ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ طَرَقَهُ وَفَاطِمَةَ، فَقَالَ: أَلَا تُصَلُّونَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّمَا أَنْفُسُنَا بِيَدِ اللهِ، فَإِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنَا بَعَثَنَا، وَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ قُلْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ مُدْبِرٌ يَضْرِبُ فَخِذَهُ، وَيَقُولُ: وَكَانَ الإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلا

✧ The Prophet ﷺ came to him and Fatimah at night and said: Will you not pray? I said: O Messenger of Allah, our souls are in the hand of Allah; if He wills to rouse us, He rouses us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away when I said that to him, then I heard him as he was leaving, striking his thigh and saying: 'But man is ever more quarrelsome than anything.'
